Factors to consider
Weigh the following factors as you begin looking at Just Energy energy plans or any residential electrical plan or natural gas plan. They’ll help you understand what your options are and what matters most to you as you start shopping:
Number of appliances
Household energy usage
Green energy product options
Fixed or variable rates
Once you have some idea of what you’re looking for, a Just Energy expert will help you find the plan that best aligns with your needs.
Just Energy offers customers the option to add a green energy product to your electricity plan or natural gas plan. If you’ve been wanting to support clean energy but aren’t sure how, sign up for our JustGreen product.
For a small monthly fee a portion of your bill will be used to purchase renewable energy credits or carbon offsets, depending on whether you sign up for JustGreen electricity or gas. These certificates or offsets can replace up to 100% your energy usage.
You can add JustGreen to any Just Energy plan. To date, the JustGreen program has had an impact equivalent to planting over 300 million trees.**
Variable Contract Lengths
Contract length will also impact your rate. If you can, sign up for the longest term length offered to get a competitive rate for as long as you can.
Electricity rates can increase each year. Anticipate any lifestyle changes or future plans as you’re considering what contract length would work best for your household.
Just Energy operates in multiple states, so a future move doesn’t necessarily mean you’d need to break your contract. Learn more about the locations Just Energy serves below.
Take advantage of your plan
Electricity rates can increase each year, so getting a fixed rate per kilowatt-hour or therm when you sign a contract helps you avoid unexpected rate hikes. At Just Energy, some of our fixed-rate plans provide a discount for higher monthly usage. If you’re unsure whether or not the plan your signing up for has this benefit, call or chat with a Just Energy advisor to find out. We’ll help you find the best way to take advantage of the features of your plan.
Check a past bill
As you shop for plans, check a past energy bill to get a rough idea of your household energy usage. Your kilowatt-hour or therm usage may change if you move to a different type of residence, like from an apartment to a single-family home. Even so, past bills are a good place to get an idea of what your typical energy bill looks like.
Read the fine print
As you compare electricity rates or natural gas costs across providers, be sure to read the fine print. Advertised rates that are much lower than the average often come with catches, like strict usage requirements or rate hikes later on. Just Energy plans aim to include predictable fixed rates and extra features you won’t get from budget providers, and we outline any start-up fees or additional costs clearly at signup so you always know what to expect from us.
