Important Notice: Texas Scam Alert

Wednesday, January 15, 2014 - Texas

Just Energy is warning customers of an ongoing scam. Fraudulent callers, claiming to be Just Energy employees, are contacting customers claiming their account is delinquent and facing disconnection unless immediate payment is made via a prepaid cash card, such as Green Dot. To add credibility to the con, the callers often use spoofing technology that enables caller ID to display the name and number of the energy company. All customers should be on guard against these deceptive acts.

Helpful tips

  • Remember that anyone who has the number on a Green Dot card has access to the funds on the card.

  • While Just Energy may contact customers regarding an outstanding balance, Just Energy will never demand immediate payment by a prepaid cash card.

  • A past-due notification will always be sent on an outstanding balance.

  • Customers should never arrange payment or divulge account or personal information over the telephone unless they are certain they are speaking to a Just Energy representative.

Anyone targeted by this scheme should not make payment. Contact local police to report the incident, and call Just Energy with any account questions.
