By using electricity, driving our cars and heating our homes, we all contribute to the release of greenhouse gases through the burning of fossil fuels. These gases have been linked to poor air quality and other negative environmental impacts. It’s a growing problem – but there’s something you can do to help stop it.
Since 2007, JustGreen™ natural gas† customers have been responsible for offsetting 230,000 metric tons of carbon emissions.
With Just Energy, you can choose to offset some of the negative environmental effects of your everyday energy use through participation in our JustGreen program for electricity (JustGreen power) and natural gas (JustGreen natural gas). Your contribution to the JustGreen program helps support locally-based green energy initiatives, where available, or other carbon offset projects in proportion to your selected energy use.
In recent years, JustGreen power* customers have injected over 1,000,000 MWh of renewable energy into the electricity grid.
The program works like this: You choose your participation level – up to 100% of your energy use-- and for JustGreen natural gas, we purchase an equivalent amount of carbon credits from companies whose greenhouse gas reductions exceed governmental standards. This purchase offsets the carbon dioxide emitted when you use natural gas. When you purchase JustGreen power, we inject into the electricity grid energy from clean, renewable sources such as wind and hydro power.
