Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
By using electricity, driving our cars and heating our homes, we all contribute to the release of greenhouse gases through the burning of fossil fuels. These gases have been linked to poor air quality and other negative environmental impacts. It’s a growing problem – but there’s something you can do to help stop it.
Since 2007, GEOgas customers have been responsible for offsetting 20,000 metric tons of carbon emissions.
With Just Energy, you can choose to offset some of the negative environmental effects of your everyday energy use through participation in our Green Energy Option (GEO) program for electricity (GEOpower) and natural gas (GEOgas). Your contribution to the Green Energy Option program helps support locally-based green energy initiatives, where available, or other carbon offset projects in proportion to your selected energy use.
In recent years, GEOpower customers have injected over 300,000 MWh of renewable energy into the electricity grid.
The program works like this: You choose your participation level – between 20% and 100% -- and for GEOgas, we purchase an equivalent amount of carbon credits from companies whose greenhouse gas reductions exceed governmental standards. This purchase offsets the carbon dioxide emitted when you use natural gas. When you purchase GEOpower, we inject into the electricity grid energy from clean, renewable sources such as wind and hydro power.
