- Who is Just Energy?
Just Energy is one of North America’s leading electricity and natural gas retailers serving over 1.6 million residential and commercial customers. Our price protection programs provide consumers with protection from the inherent volatility of natural gas and electricity supply prices, offering the ability to budget their energy costs more effectively. By securing the price for natural gas or electricity under contracts of up to five years, our customers reduce or eliminate their exposure to changes in the price of these essential commodities. We also offer environmentally friendly JustGreen electricity and natural gas supply solutions.
In addition to price protected programs, Just Energy offers variable price products (such as our Rate Flex program in Massachusetts), which offer customers true market prices, with an option to lock in at any time.
Just Energy is a subsidiary of Just Energy Income Fund, a publicly traded fund listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. top
- Where do you offer your products?
Just Energy offers electricity in the NSTAR service area. top
- How is my energy rate determined now?
If you are currently not on a program with an energy retailer, you are paying the default service price. Default service is the generation service that is provided by distribution companies to those customers who are not receiving service from a competitive supplier. You have the option to choose one of two pricing options for default service: (1) a variable pricing option in which the price changes monthly; and (2) a fixed pricing option in which the variable monthly prices are averaged and remain constant for six-month periods. top
- How does the Rate Flex Program work?
Just Energy’s Rate Flex program offers consumers wholesale market rates for their electricity supply, access to the wholesale energy market, and a green energy option. Specifically, we will purchase and retire renewable energy credits or attributes on your behalf, equivalent to the level of your electricity consumption.
Upon enrollment, your current utility will continue to service your account for delivery and maintenance, which means no service interruptions to you. The only difference is that Just Energy becomes your supplier, and you’ll see our name listed on your bill.
Please review your Agreement for the specific terms of your program. top
- What are the benefits of joining Just Energy's FlexRate Program?
Just Energy offers you current market prices for electricity while providing a renewable energy solution at the same time. Your rate is comparable to that of the utility, and you can feel good knowing that you’re making a positive impact on the environment by supporting renewable energy. top
- How do I sign up?
You may sign up through one of the contractors canvassing neighborhoods throughout Massachusetts, or you may call our Customer Service Department at 1.866.587.8674 and we can mail you an agreement. top
- Will I be switching energy suppliers?
Yes. By choosing a Just Energy Rate Flex Program, you arrange to have Just Energy become your energy supplier, for the duration and at the rate set out in your agreement. Your utility continues to deliver your energy, and bills you both for their delivery charges and our supply charges. top
- Am I going to receive multiple bills if I sign with Just Energy?
No. Just Energy’s charges will appear on your local utility bill. top
- When will my program take effect?
As long as your account has been successfully enrolled, Just Energy will begin supplying your energy 15 to 120 days after you sign your agreement. top
- How can I tell if the program has started?
Once the program begins, Just Energy will appear on your bill as your electricity supplier, along with our toll free customer service number. top
- Is the program transferable if I move?
Our program may be transferable if you move within your utility's geographical area. If you are moving, you must contact our Customer Service Department at least 45 days prior to your moving date and we will attempt to transfer your account. top
- Can I cancel at any time?
Just Energy extends your right to cancel to 30 calendar days after the date of your first bill under the Agreement. If your enrollment under the Agreement has already been processed by your utility, then (i) it may take up to 1?3 billing periods to process your cancellation, and (ii) you must pay all amounts charged to you up to the effective date of cancellation. top
- Is there a cost to cancel?
There is no cost to cancel within the 30 day cancellation period. After the 30 days have expired, you will be required to pay exit fees as set out in your Agreement. top
- What happens at the end of my chosen term?
Just Energy may send you a renewal notice prior to the end of your chosen term outlining your renewal options. If you do not wish to renew, you will be given the opportunity to end your Agreement at the end of your term. To inquire about your renewal date, please contact our Customer Service Department at 1.866.587.8674. If you do not wish to renew, you must let us know within the time period set out in your renewal notice. Otherwise, we may renew your Agreement on a month to month basis. top
- If I have a question or concern, who can I contact?
If you have any questions or concerns at all, or wish to provide us with your feedback, please contact our Customer Service Department at 1.866.587.8674 or email us at cs@justenergy.com. top
- What is green energy?
Green energy refers to environmentally friendly, low-polluting sources of energy. It can also be referred to as renewable energy. The use of green energy reduces negative impacts to the environment and decreases harmful greenhouse gas emissions. top
- Why should I care about green energy?
We all contribute to the release of harmful greenhouse gases when we burn fossil fuels to generate electricity, power our cars and heat and light our homes. Climate change resulting from greenhouse gas emissions is a leading, global environmental threat.
Locally, Massachusetts has set a goal to promote renewable energy and sharply reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2020. This is the ‘2,000 MW by 2020 legislation’. With our green program, you can start making a difference today. In fact, since 2007, our customers have helped generate over 600,000 MWh of renewable energy. That’s enough energy to power 60,000 homes for a year! top
- How does JustGreen Power work?
On behalf of JustGreen power customers, Just Energy purchases certified Renewable Energy Credits from major renewable power producers in Massachusetts and other sources in New England. When you choose JustGreen power, you’re helping to ensure that more clean energy is added to the electricity grid from renewable sources. top
- How does Just Energy ensure that my contributions are going towards green energy?
We are audited yearly by internationally recognized accounting firm, Grant Thornton LLP. When you purchase our green products, you can be sure that your money is going exactly where we say it is: to renewable energy (or carbon offset projects). top
- Why should I pay more for JustGreen on top of my regular utility bill?
Green energy is generally more costly to produce than conventional energy. However, the price for green energy includes the environmental value of generating renewable energy. When you choose JustGreen power, you support clean, renewable electricity generation rather than generation from polluting fossil-fuel sources. This means more ‘green’ power is injected into the electricity grid to power your home, reducing your personal electricity-related emissions footprint. top
- What is a Kilowatt (kW) and a Kilowatt Hour (kWh)?
(A) kW -- Kilowatt, the standard unit for measuring electricity demand, equal to 1,000 watts; (B) kWh -- Kilowatt-hour, the standard unit for measuring electricity energy consumption, equal to 1,000 watt-hours top
